:: Ethiopian Olympic Committee: EOC held its annual General Assembly EOC held its annual General Assembly ================================================================================ Aschalew Shiferaw on 28/12/2011 05:51:00 Thursday December 15/2011 Addis Ababa, Ethiopia In accordance with Article 8.2.34 of the constitution of the Ethiopian Olympic Committee (EOC), the annual General Assembly of EOC has been held on 15th December 2011. The agenda of the secession were Confirmation of the minutes of the annual General Assembly held on November 13-14, 2010, presentation and adoption of the Audited Financial Statements, for the period 2010/2011 and discussion on EOC’s plan for London 2012 Olympic Games. On his speech delivered at the secession, EOC president Berhane Kidanemariam expressed, during the last budget year, EOC worked out to spread Olympic movmet in the nation through Sport for all Program, providing regions with financial supports, building the capacity of women in sport leadership, organizing trainings for media professionals among others. “Preparations for London 2012 Olympic have been carried on “, the president added, “and the Sport Medicine Course which was conducted recently is exemplary. “ It was indicated on Mr. Berahe’s speech that EOC received a 120,000 square meters of land from Addis Ababa City Administration, which is imperative for EOC’s Sport institutions expansion plan. The General Assembly thanked the city administration for giving this plot of land whose basic lease amount is 43 million birr to EOC free of charge. The land shall used for Olympic Academy to be built on. The guest speaker during the General Assembly meeting was Vice Commissioner of the Federal Sport Commission, Mr. Anbessaw Eneyew. During his speech he stated that EOC is a long existing organization which has been working to promote Olympic philosophy in Ethiopia since Melbourne Olympics 1956 and has significant impact. Mr. Ambessaw also said that he believes EOC will continue its support in the areas of capacity building, finance and material supports for the promotion and expansion of sport associations in the country. As it is mentioned during the session, EOC has also received the Embuay Mesk Sport and Recreational Center from Federal Sport Commission by contract for 25 years for the sake of generating income. This center shall be renovated and start its operation soon. In addition to that the Bishoftu Olympafrica Center whose designing work is completed, its construction shall be started in the near future. It was also announced the launching of EOC’s official website www.ethiolympic.org for both domestic and international users.
