International Olympic day Marked

The day was marked in Three different cities –Debre Zeit, Bahir Dar, and Hawassa- that same day. This was the 55th year to mark the day globally while in Ethiopia it was the 23rd

ADDIS ABABA – Taking the opportunity of marking the international Olympic day last sandy at Debere Zeit, Tamirat Bekele, Director of the Ethiopian Olympic committee presented paper that through a lively discussion among the participates. In connection to the Olympic day a 4-km race and a wheel chair competition for the disabled took place among the participants. The day was marked in Three different cities –Debre Zeit, Bahir Dar, and Hawassa- that same day. This was the 55^th year to mark the day globally while in Ethiopia it was the 23^rd . 

Ethiopia first participated in melboure Olympics in 1956 in athletics, boxing and cycling. No medal was gainged in Ethiopia’s Olympic debut.But for  years later, Ethiopia achieved high winning the  Olympic gold in marathon through the atheleticslegend abebe Bikela in Rome. That was the first Olympic win for Africa. Abebe also repeated that fiat in the Tokyo Olympic in 1964.so far two marathon’s an Ethiopian and East german, succeeded in winning two  Olympic marathon gold medalia in the Olympic 111 years history. Ethiopian Mamo Walde wongold medalia in marathon in Mixico in 1968 To This day no other country collocated marathon gold in three successive Olympices.

Ethiopia registers two dramatically opposite records in Austrialia in the span of 44 years. In Ethiopia first xpperanc in australiy city of melborne in medil was earned in 1956 but in another Australin city, sindey in 2000,Ethiopia collocated a record high goldmedals, four. Haile G/selase in 10,000 meters Million assefa in 5,000 meter for Derartu  and Hile that was the peak of the track record in the  Olympics. Both of them earned their gold medal in 10,000 meters in sanday and both of them didn’t get gold medals in the Olympics after sandy. 

The sandy Olympics  has also another important significationfor Ethiopia. In the men’s marathon Ethiopia collocated gold for the first time in 32 years through Gezahegn. The last time ethiopoia earned gold was in Mexico in 1968. of course, in the women marathons Fatuma Roba had gold in the 1996 Atlanta   Olympics  that shying win has never been repeated to this day. Ato Tamirat Director of the EOC, said on the occasation that Ethiopia is preparing to participate in the 2012 London Olympics in cycling and swimming n addition to the already known games that the country used to participate athletics and boxing.
